Raymundo Riva Palacio: Response to López Obrador

Once again, el president Andrés Manuel López Obrador referred to Carlos Loret and to whom this is written because he did not like what was proposed and accepted the financial assistance of 500 million dollars to protect the security of the United States.

Abdullah Hassan, adjunct spokesman for the White House, wrote in his account on Twitter: “In sus four years, Trump did not finish the border wall, menos aún que México pagara por él. “El presidente Biden has just made Mexico accept payment (el énfasis es mío) of 1.5 billions before improving processing and security through the administration of proven border solutions.”

In addition to the repasón to the Mexican president, Hassan made it clear that Biden managed to get López Obrador to do what he wanted, adding to his program of infrastructure with the contribution of resources, para ayudarle to improve the security of the Americans, not of the Mexicans, in the tema del narcotráfico, al tiempo de disinhibir y frenar la migración, que tanto daño electoral le está haciendo al chief de la Casa Blanca.

En este espacio se apuntó: “In the same way as with Donald Trump, president Andrés Manuel López Obrador behaved with Joe Biden. During his brief visit to the White House last Tuesday, López Obrador accepted what his predecessor, Enrique Peña Nieto, rejected: paying for a barrier that prevents undocumented people and drugs from crossing the border of Mexico and the United States. Trump didn’t ask López Obrador like that, but he obliged to militarize the border with Guatemala and change his asylum policy. Biden went further. Logró lo mismo que Trump y más”.

López Obrador referred this week to the modernization projects of the border bridges on the Mexican side. Estos existen, y se mencioron en la columna, subrayando las priorities del mexicano gobierno, en la Mesa de Otay, the expansion of the bridge and the border port between Reynosa and Pharr, and the expansion of the border port San Jerónimo-Santa Teresa. The border modernization initiative, however, started in the context of the presentation of the Infrastructure and Employment Act signed by Biden in November, a five-year plan to modernize the border infrastructure at a cost of three thousand 600 million dollars hacer más segura la region y más efficient el transito de personas y comercio.

The plan elaborated by Customs and Border Protection, which was aggregated in the column, aimed to protect the United States and facilitate trade and tourism by increasing the biometric verification of people and vehicles to prevent the passage of drugs and neutralize “other threats” a la seguridad”. The White House had been negotiating for two years with the border state governments, with the Mexican government and with business sectors, and the final conversation was announced in May during a forum in Tijuana where the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, participated. ; the ambassador of the United States in Mexico, Ken Salazar, and the undersecretary of the State for Narcóticos Internacionales y Asuntos Judiciales, Todd Robinson.

The barrier that the White House faced was the López Obrador government, which was in disagreement with the security requirement of the Biden government on the Mexican border.

Mexico was willing to receive equipment and technology from the United States before those fines, but there was no condition for it: accept that the test before verifying the commissioning of the equipment was realized by Sandia National Laboratories, a laboratory of the Department of Energy operated by Honeywell International , que es contratista del gobierno estadounidense. This company specializes in national security, counterterrorism, police surveillance, military sensors and satellites.

The proposal of the White House, through the Consejo Nacional de Seguridad, was that the equipment installed in Mexico was supervised by this company, which also had to test the guarantees that their programs would not be altered. In summary, que no hubiera corrupción mexicana.

It has nothing to do with the 17 billion pesos that México will inject before the modernization of its customs, but with the 500 million dollars of equipment that, as Hassan said, “before improving processing and security through de la administración de soluciones frontierizas probadas”.
