The research on pigs revolutions what we know about death

(CNN) — Investigators from the University of Yale say that they have been able to restore blood circulation and other cellular functions in pigs one hour after the death of animals, which suggests that the cells do not die as quickly as the scientists assumed.

The OrganEx system pumped un perfused fluid mixed with blood through the blood vessels of the dead pigs. The perfusate contains a synthetic form of hemoglobin protein and various other compounds and molecules that help protect cells and prevent the formation of blood clots. Six hours after the treatment with OrganEx, the team discovered that certain key cellular functions were active in many areas of the pig body, including the heart, liver and kidneys, and that some functions of the organs had been restored.
