The liquid natural gas terminal of Swinoujscie is the largest in Poland.

“Esto nos ha puesto en la línea de fuego”, says Józef, a 60-year-old taxi driver from the area of Warszów in Świnoujście.

The coastal city houses the largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Poland, which some describe as the country’s best opportunity before lograr la independencia energetica.

But local residents like Józef fear that this could convert it into an objective for the unpredictable president of Russia, Vladimir Putin.

Until this year, Russia supplied 40% of the natural gas of the European Union, but after the bloody invasion of Ukraine in February, everyone in this part of Europe is nervous about Russia’s supplies.
